31 Days, 31 Reasons to be Thankful: January 28: Organization

Everybody who knows me knows this:

I LOVE LITTLE DRAWERS.

I have a wonderful collection, but it's never quite enough. I suppose this goes along well with my business; beads, bits, and bobs fit quite well into these little beauties.

I love that feeling of pure satisfaction that comes with  finishing up a really great organizational project. For me, those projects always involve little drawers.
My gift-giver had painted this for me...I thanked him and promptly painted it white
Last year, a friend gave me a GORGEOUS set of the perfect little drawers: 20 letter-sized metal drawers (2 rows of 10) that house my beads, vintage flowers, antique earrings, lace, ribbon...you get the picture. This same friend gave me a gorgeous library card catalog for Christmas, effectively beginning my hunt for more of these gorgeous little drawers.

My $35 shining star
This past summer I found a magnificent 15-drawer card catalog for sale, complete with stand, for a mere $35. It was one of those breathtaking moments at the flea market where you look around to make sure there is no one closing in on your find...I handed that cash over like it was on fire.

I love having things in order. I think that, if my physical surroundings are organized, then so too must be my life. Well...that's my story, and I'm sticking to it.

  1. I love them, too, and use them to sort small doo dads for my mosaic art!!! Great find at $35 - seems everyone loves these small drawers and the price usually matches the demand.

    1. Someday I'm going to photograph my workspace and share my full collection of "little drawers". You're right, everyone does love them! I thought these would have been closer to $200.

    1. Oh my goodness, Penny, it is SO funny you said that! When my brother and I were little (he was maybe 3-4 and I was ~5-6), my grandparents bought this beautiful mahogany bookcase from Indiana and brought it home (to Pittsburgh). For some reason, when they were in the middle of carrying it in, my brother suddenly burst out, "You dirty pigs! You STOLE that!". My grandmother always laughed so hard when she told that story...she paid $1,100 for it! I guess my brother figured if he didn't see them buy it at the store, it must have been stolen, hahahaha!

  6. Oh you lucky duck! I too love little drawers, but have not run across any cabinets like these. I am however making some drawers in my new craft room and creating some mini drawers out of some old wood cheese boxes. I'll be showing the bigger drawers very soon.

I love both these pieces! Have a great week :)

  9. Gotta love little drawers! So fun to read about your $35 deal, know exactly how that feels. I'm also slightly nervous that surely I've read the price tag wrong and I'm going to embarrass myself when I hand over $100 less than the tag actually reads, ha!

Going through my stack of collected business cards, wondering where I might have meet you. Looking at your etsy shop I'm thinking, Country Living fair here in Austin? Darn, doesn't look like they'll be doing another fair here again.
